Lorac Dazzling Dozen Review and Swatches!

I know I don't typically post reviews on here of high end products but this was just one product I could not pass up. I finally got a chance to go to an Ulta store while visiting a friend. The closest one to my actual house is over an hour away so I don't get a chance to go there often. Now I do order stuff from time to time from the website but I like being able to look at products before I buy them. I like to see what size they are and swatch them if possible before I spend a good amount of money. While walking around I spotted this Lorac Eyeshadow set called Dazzling Dozen. It has 12 full size single eyeshadows but what really got me was the price... $ for some of you that seems like a lot but for 12 eyeshadows from any high end brand that is a steal. Most high end companies sell their single eyeshadows for up to $20 a piece! I through it in my cart immediately. As of right now the set is still available on the Ulta website. You can check it out by clicking here.
Now I will warn you early that this is not what the set actually looks like. Why, you ask? Well because I didn't realize until I got home that I got a defected one and that 2 of the shades were exactly the same. I got two of the Bronze shade and didn't get Serenity. I am currently trying to get in touch with Ulta to see if I can send the extra one that I didn't open back in and get the one I am missing. I don't want to have to send the whole thing back because I already opened and used some of them and I think that would just be a waste. So I am going to review all the colors minus the one I did not receive.

I tried my best to capture the glitter and purple hue in the shade. It was one of the harder ones to photograph. This is Dazzle and it is a beautiful dark deep plum shade with glitter. Though it has a good amount of glitter in it I did not find it to be one of those "glitter shadows," that ends up transferring all over your face. With a good eyeshadow base like the NYX Eye Base the glitter stays put on the lid. This shade is so pigmented and beautiful.

This color is called Starlight. It is a gorgeous black glitter eyeshadow. It comes off very glittery both in swatches and on the eye. The glitter isn't chunky though it is microglitter so you don't get a whole lot of fall out with this. Though I do recommend always using a primer or eye shadow base.

This shade is called Luxury. It is a very similar glitter formula as the previous two but it is a deep dark brown.

Here are all three of the glitter shades swatched next to each other on bare skin. From left to right you have Dazzle, Starlight, and Luxury. As you can see they are all pretty glittery. If you don't like that then these will definitely not be for you. I on the other hand LOVE glitter shadows. They are all very pigmented and apply even. Despite the glitter they are all very silky feeling as well.

This shade is Shimmer Reflect. It is a frosty white shade which would be great for the inner corner or a brow bone highlight if you like a shimmery highlight.

This is Gleam. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures guys. I don't know what was going on with my camera but I was having a heck of a time getting it to focus the day I took these pictures. Anyway, Gleam is a light tan taupe color. It is also a frosty shade just like Shimmer Reflect.
These are both the shades swatched over bare skin. As you can see they are both rather frosty shades but they apply very nicely. Both are very pigmented and silky smooth.

So before I show you bronze I want you to bask in the glory that is double Bronze! By that I mean be sad with me that I got two of the same color.

So here is Bronze. It is a warm chocolate brown shade. It is a satin shade but has a little bit of shimmer.
This shade is perhaps my favorite one out of the whole set. What can I say I am a sucker for color and this is about the only bright shade in the collection. It is called Celebutante and it is GORGEOUS! It is a turquoise green shade with a frosty finish. It applies well, blends well, and is super pigmented.
Here are Bronze and Celebutante!

The next shade is Mango which is a gorgeous matte peachy pink color. In this picture is looks darker than it really is. It is a very soft both in texture and how it looks on the eye. I did find that this shade was a little bit powdery when applied.
This shade is Au Naturel. It is a matte/slightly satin finish light cream color. Perfect for highlighting your brow bone. I like that they threw a color like this in there.
The shade on the top is Au Naturel and the bottom is Mango.

This color is called Smokin' and it is a matte medium brown! I love this color lately for blending out the crease. It is so creamy and perfect for the crease or possibly a good eyebrow powder.

This is Sapphire which is a dark matte blue. This one is probably my least favorite out of all the colors. The color is beautiful but it applies really patchy and uneven. I wanted this to be so great but it just lacked for me.

Sapphire looks beautiful in the swatch but I had to swipe it a couple times to get it to look this good. Smokin' is on the bottom and it is just as awesome as in the picture.

Overall I love mostly all the colors. I think this is an awesome bargain and you should snatch it up before it disappears. The packaging is a little cheap but I don't really mind that much. They are all fairly pigmented and have a great texture.

Highlighter Heaven?...E.l.f Baked Highlighter Review and Swatches!

Hello again beauties! I hope everyone is doing well today! Before I begin this review I have a little favor to ask of my lovely readers. I am entered in a contest through Riteaid for the Eye Extravaganza Event. The contest was to create a Smokey Look. I wanted to put a bit of an nontraditional spin on it and decided to do a golden brown smokey look that will be perfect for the fall months. If you all could be dears and pop over there and vote for my picture it would be greatly appreciated. You could do so by clicking here!

Back to the scheduled program...I am super excited to sit down and right this post! You know how I get when I find an amazingly inexpensive product THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!! I get those little beauty butterflies. Well if you have not tried the new E.l.f Baked Highlighters yet then girl you need to have them in your life. As you all know from my many many E.l.f posts I have a bit of an addiction to buying E.l.f products. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand it is a very affordable ($1-$6 usually) makeup brand that you can find in drugstores and online. You may also hear it called Eyes Lips Face which is what E.l.f actually stands for. I always like to give their products a spin because if they work they are so affordable that you can't possibly go wrong. Some of my most beloved products like the Makeup Lock and Seal (view here) my Eyebrow Miracle (view here) or their amazing Blush/Bronzer Kits (view here).

I have tried their baked eyeshadows and they were phenomenal. I use them all the time especially the Studio Baked Eyeshadow Palette. I also tried their baked blushes. What I find interesting about their release of the Baked Highlighters is that they do remind me of a few of the blushes. The Baked Blushes were duds for me because many of them acted more like highlighters than an actual blush. They had a beautiful sheen but lacked the color payoff that I would have liked from a blush. I ended up tossing a couple and kept a couple which up until now I was using for a highlighter. They will now most likely just collect dust because the Baked Highlighters do a much better job.

I picked up all three shades which sell for $3 a piece (talk about a bargain)!!
These are the 3 shades available. Moonlight Pearl which is on the left is a light cream color. Blush Gems which is in the middle is a champagne/medium brown shade. Pink Diamonds which is on the right is a pink toned shade. All three have that traditional domed shape that comes with baked products. You get a decent amount of product with these and each one is about the size of  a Milani Baked Blush. My one gripe about these is the packaging. They come in a rather cheap and flimsy plastic compact. I do not see it being very resilient to being dropped or tossed around so this is probably not a product you are going to want to travel with. Baked products can be rather fragile to begin with and I don't think this compact will withstand much abuse.
Here is a closer look at the shades. Above is Moonlight Pearl.
Here is a close up of Blush Gems.
and finally here is a close up of Pink Diamonds.

The above two pictures are swatches done on bare skin. These are heavy swatches so that you can see the difference in the shades. They will not come off this heavy on the skin so you don't have to worry about having a huge stripe of highlighter down your cheek or anything like that.
This is what they look like sheered out and what they will look like when applied lightly with a brush. As you can see they apply much more sheer but you still can see the difference in the tones of the different shades. I love that these give you a nice sheen without being glittery or overly shiny. I love my Mary Loumanizer from The Balm but unless applied with a very light hand you end up looking like a walking disco ball and unless you are Donna Summer that is not ok. These did not have that issue with me. One swipe through the product with my brush and one swipe on the skin and it was perfect. They give you that nice natural glow but are not overwhelming. I would like to see how these do up against the popular Bella Highlighting Powders everyone is talking about.

Overall for the money these are a great little product. I have been using them everyday and I still adore them. I brush a little on the top of my cheekbones and run a bit down my nose and it really helps slim out my face while giving me a nice natural glow. It makes me look healthy and happy :)!

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer Swatches and Review...Luna and Celestial!

Hey there pretty ladies. I hope everyone is doing well today. It is a thunderstorm filled raining day here in Middleofnowhere, NewI York. I figured today would be a good day to curl up with some Pumpkin Spice Coffee and do some good ol' bloggin! I have a large basket that is quickly filling up with reviews that need to get done but have been finding myself with little time to do it lately! Oh the woes of living a grown up life ha!!

I am sure by now you guys have seen the new Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers floating around. I am a bit late on this one seeing as how they came out back in the beginning of summer but I hadn't really had a chance to test them out until about a month ago and for the sake of giving an accurate and honest review I wanted to make sure they got a fair amount of play time before I gave you my verdict.

These were released overseas for a bit before they hit the states but they went by the name Apocolips or something like that which to be honest I thought was rather clever and cute. All of the name have to do with space and astronomy so they still kind of carry on the theme but they are called Show Off Lip Lacquers in the states. There are 12 shades total in the collection ranging from pinks, peaches, reds, and some dark tones. I only picked up 2 shades that I knew I would get some wear out of but you can check out all of the shades by clicking here! Now that I have had time to test drive these puppies I would love to go get the rest but for my wallets sake I only picked out two initially. They will run you about $5-6 full price but you can usually catch some pretty good sales every now and then at the drugstore! I bought mine during a buy one get one half off sale on Rimmel at Walgreens!

I really like the packaging of these. They are sturdy and very sleek. I like the textured top. It comes with a doe foot applicator which works rather nicely.

The two shades that I chose were Celestial which is on the left and Luna which is one the right. Celestial is a mauve/pink and Luna is more of a peachy coral. Both are gorgeous! I was really impressed by these lip glosses overall. They are so pigmented an opaque yet still nice and glossy. I would describe them as a Semi Matte almost. I loved how they felt on the lips also. They applied silky and smooth and were not sticky at all. You felt almost as if you weren't even wearing anything. I can also say that these lasted quite a while as well. I had to do a touch up every couple of hours but even after drinking and eating they only faded a little bit.

The company says that these are "neither a lipstick or a lipgloss but bigger than both." I have to say that that is pretty accurate. I mean they applied silkier than a lip gloss but had the opacity and full coverage finish of a lipstick. Seriously with one coat you got a full coverage lip! Of course you can build these up more but you shouldn't need too. I also found that they didn't bleed once they were set which can be an issue with more opaque liquid products. I also like the smell of these. Strange I know but I am one of those people that cares about whether a lip product smells like cupcakes or chemicals. These have a light natural scent that kind of reminded me of plantains or banana.
This is what Celestial looks like on bare lips. As you can see it covers like a lipstick would but gives you that hint of sheen like a gloss! The best of both worlds I'd say!
This is Luna. Luna does apply a bit patchy so I had to do two coats but it was worth it because I love this color.

Overall, I would say that these are definitely worth the money. I have been using them like crazy and plan to go pick up a couple more shades from the collection. Maybe some darker shades for fall or the beautiful red they have. Do any of you have these? What do you think?

August Favorites 2013!! Love Em or Leave Em!

I know this is a couple days late but my computer decided it no longer wanted to work so it took a couple days to get it back up and running! I won't lie I am sad to see summer go. If there are any NY folks reading this than you know we kind of got jipped when it came to summer. It was more of a monsoon season here and just rained and rained! Though I am sad to see summer fade I have to admit that I love fall. I like wearing sweaters and sipping pumpkin lattes. I like seeing the leaves change and going to the apple orchard near my house! I also love the change in beauty routine...let's see what I love about the last leg of summer!

Love Em.....

1)Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Crème Makeup, Early Tan I really have been back into loving my Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation. During most of the summer I wore BB Creams because they were lighter and offered some sun protection but during the last couple weeks of summer my skin went crazy! It was a blemishy mess and I knew just the foundation to tackle this problem. I really like this foundation! It is a full coverage foundation so if that isn't your style then you probably won't enjoy it like I do. I like that even though it is full coverage it doesn't feel heavy or look cakey and it wears all day!

2) Milani Baked Powder Blush in Red Vino

Milani Baked Powder Blush, Red Vino 09 I have been loving this blush as a transition into the next season. It is gorgeous. It gives me that nice natural flush while adding a little bit of sheen. It has little gold ripples throughout it which worked well with my summer tan. Now I don't see myself wearing this much in the colder months. It is much harder to pull off shiny blushes in the winter.

3)Wet N Wild Coverall Pressed Powder

Wet n Wild CoverAll Pressed Powder, Fair/LightI did a full review on this product months ago which you can read by clicking here! I still love it for all the reasons I did before. It cancels out redness and helps get rid of oily/shiny patches on my face. It is also very affordable. I always use a powder either to set my concealer or foundation.

4)Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara

CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara, Brown 815 Ever since I picked up this mascara I knew that all my other mascaras were going to feel neglected. I love this little guy so much. I use it on myself and on my clients because it is just a wonderful mascara. It really does keep the clumping down while adding volume and some length. It is a little lash miracle. I did a full review on it which you can see by clicking here

5)NYX Be Fierce Palette

I posted a review on this earlier in the week but I must admit that it has gotten a lot of love from me lately. It is just so easy to create looks out of this. I don't have to worry about opening a bunch of different products or trying to figure out colors that will work together.

6)Jordana Fabuliner

Jordana Fabuliner Liquid EyelinerThis little gem is only $3 and what a find it was! I have not had the best of luck when it comes to marker style liquid liners. Almost every one I have ever owned has dried out after only being used a couple times. Either that or they get all watery and streaky. This one does not do either of those things. I have owned this eyeliner for I would say 8 months now and it still works just as well as the day I bought it. It has not dried out a bit and still works wonderfully. Now it is not the darkest black I have ever seen but it is great for an everyday type of look. I also like that it lasts forever! No touch ups are necessary with this.

7)Vaseline Spray and Go Moisturizer in Total Moisture

Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer in Total MoistureNow when I first saw this in the stores I was skeptical. In the back of my mind I just kept thinking of those greasy spray on sunscreens. I didn't think that this would work very well so I wrote it off. Well what a silly choice that was. After seeing people rave about it all over blogs and Youtube I thought I would give it a go. Bam....awesomeness!! It is pretty great I must say. It is not at all greasy like I had imagined and drys really well. You don't even have to rub it in if you don't want to. Though I think I do out of habit. The smell is nice as well. I will say that the $8 price tag is a bit steep especially since I have only used mine a handful of times and I feel like it is almost empty. What you are paying for is the sheer ease. This stuff is a breeze to apply and it does really work. My skin feels smooth and supple after using it.

8) Miss Jessies Original Jelly Soft Curls

My head is a curly curly mess most days. My boyfriend literally called me Mufassa some mornings!! I have gone through my fair share of curl products. Ones that enhance, hold, tighten, defrizz, deslick, and on and on and on...I could go on like Bumba on Forest Gump when it comes to the products I have used. There are some real gems out there don't get me wrong and not all my attempts at finding that golden product were a bust but this product has topped them all. One of the things I hate most about curling products is that most of them leave my hair feeling crunchy and stiff. This doesn't do that at all. This gel is easy to use and leaves my curls nice and soft. It smells good, lasts a long time, and really does help define my curls. Overall a win for me.

Leave Em......

1)L'oreal Colour Riche Le Balms

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Balm, Nourishing Nude

I managed to pick a few of these up in the beginning of the summer on a limited edition L'oreal Versailles Romance display that had these and some pastel colored nail polishes on them. I picked up three total Laze In The Maze which is a pink, Legally Regal, and a peach color that I can't find now. Anyway, I hadn't really gotten around to using these this summer but now that it is getting colder I decided to pull them out on the hopes that they were in fact a balm. Womp womp....after a couple weeks of testing these are nothing to cheer about. First off they are almost all completely sheer. They give your lips a bit of shine but there is not real color payoff. When you look at them without swatching them they appear like they are going to be nice creamy opaque shades but none of them are. I also didn't feel like they did anything when it came to moisturizing my lips. They didn't feel any better after wearing these. I also thought the formula was rather greasy feeling and they wore off easily. Seeing as how I spend almost $9 a piece on these I was rather disappointed.

2)Wet N Wild MegaVolume Mascara

Wet n Wild MegaVolume Mascara, Very BlackI am sure that I am not the only one who has accumulated a good size pile of crap mascaras over the years. I don't know why I continue on the quest of finding good mascaras when I have a few that I love and that work really well. However, every time there is a new "more wonderful mascara that can do everything," that comes out I have to go get it and try it. I often lose more times than I win when it comes to these things but alas I cannot stop. I am always drawn in my the hype, packaging, and glorious promises the companies make. So when Wet N Wild came out with some new mascaras I of course had to pick one up. There are a few of them but this one promised volume and that is what my lashes lack most. Well what a waste!! This did nothing for my lashes. It tinted them that is about it. It clumped my lashes together and smudged throughout the day. It did nothing for curl, volume, or length.

Well I think that is it for the month of August. I am excited to drag out my Fall makeup and do some darker lips and nails and things like that. Thank you for reading beauties.
