NYC Big Bold Plumping Lip Gloss Review and Swatches!

My relationship over the years with NYC Cosmetics has not been too good. With the exception of the Python Palette which was limited edition a couple months ago and the Sunny Bronzer, I have not liked any of the products from them that I have tried. With cosmetics that cost under $5 you are always taking a gamble on the quality of the product. As we have seen with Wet N Wild it can be done and can be done well but NYC usually isn't the same. So when I saw all the new products they were putting out I was sceptical. I figured I would start small and buy some nail polish or lip glosses. I was immediately drawn to the new Big Bold Lip Plumping Lipgloss. There are 12 colors in the collection and they seemingly look beautiful not to mention they are rather large. The glosses cost $3.99 a piece. I only picked out two colors which I thought would be perfect for spring!
The two colors I chose were Pumped Up Purple (left) and Coral To The Max (Right)

Let's look at what these lip glosses are supposed to do :
-Adds up to 50% more volume to lips.
-Long wearing, wears up to 5 hours.
-Non-sticky, lightweight.
-Full, perfect and homogeneous coverage.

Above is what Coral To The Max
                                                     Above is Pumped Up Purple
Here is swatches of both on my hand
Uhhhhh...I wanted to love these I really did but overall they were an epic fail! Here are the reasons why I do not enjoy these:
1) The applicator is huge. At least 3 times the size of a normal applicator which means you get a lot of product on it. When you pull the applicator out of the tube big goopy strings come out with it. You have to wipe the excess off on the edge which makes a huge mess. Also the applicator makes it hard to apply.
2) The texture. It promises to be non sticky which is false. It is very gooey and sticky and feels like you put honey all over your lips. I could only wear it about a half hour before I had to wipe it off.
3) The smell. It smells like a very cheap lip gloss. It smells like plastic and flowers and it is a strong smell. I could smell it the whole time I was wearing it.
4) I didn't feel a plumping effect. There was no tingly minty feeling like you usually get with plumping lip products. I happen to enjoy that part.
Overall I really didn't like these. I couldn't even stand wearing them long enough to test the 5 hour promise. The color pay off wasn't too bad and I really liked the coral color but all the other negatives made it impossible to enjoy wearing for me! Have any of you tried these glosses? If so what do you think?
Maybe next time NYC...maybe next time!!

  1. SO NYC does good by with their $1.00 Instant Lash mascara, believe it or not! I am a true mascara snob because my lashes get tangled and head in a million different direction...but this stuff really works!!! For $1.00, you really can't beat it!
